Q. What is MyGazette?
A. MyGazette is a site of news and information posted by user from around the UK
Q. Who uses MyGazette?
A. MyGazette is used by all sorts of people from all areas of the UK and expats living abroad to keep up with events.
Q. Can anyone post stories on MyGazette?
A. Yes MyGazette is FREE and anyone can register and post news, events and information on the site.
Q. Do I need to write my piece in a formal style?
A. No there is no formal style required for the style of writing on MyGazette, although it is recommended to write your piece on a word processor and spell check it before posting.
Q. How do I format my story?
A. The only requirement is the story should be posted as Headline, Summary and story. Entering your story on the post news page you will see three text entry boxes labelled as above. the summary should be the first paragraph of the story giving the reader as much information about the story, like where, when and who. This is displayed on news summary pages where people then click the link to read the full story.
Q. How do I follow-up on an existing story?
A. To add a follow-up piece to an existing story view the story you want to follow-up on while logged in and you will see a follow-up link at the bottom of the article, this will take you to the post news page. Enter your new story as normal completing all required fields i.e. regional, Headline, Summary, story and picture if you have one, then click submit. Your new story will have a related link back to the original story automatically added when people view the full story.
Q. Why do I keep seeing Session Timed Out message?
A. When a registered user logs in, the site monitors their activity and if the user is inactive for 20 minutes they are automatically logged out of the site. This serves two purposes, if a user has closed their browser or navigated away from the site they would not be able to log in again with the existing session active, with the time out they will be able to login again after 20 minutes. Also if a user walks away from their PC leaving MyGazette logged in other people might use the system and start posting using the registered users account.
Q. How do I view news from my area?
A. At the moment you will have to use the search page and select the region, county, borough or town you want to see the news for. we are working on the site and one of our priorities is to have options to load preset area news when you login. Another option we are looking into is regional portals, where you will be able to type a URL like www.mygazette.co.uk/hayes and you will go straight to a page where any local information and news will be displayed.
Q. I have posted in the Guest Book but it's not showing?
A. This could be caused by automatic SPAM checking we perform on all entries added to the guest book, or it may be that you missed an entry in a field like your name as this is a requirement for an entry. Try re entering making sure you include a name, location and message, and complete the security check box. If your message still fails to show, drop us an email at admin@mygazette.co.uk or through the contact page and we will look at the entry and manually include it to be shown.
