Q. What should I put for Item and Description?

A. The Item is a brief description of the item like Digital Clock, Bag of men's clothes depending on what you are offering.

The Description can be as detailed as you like, you can also add information to the description like, Men's clothes for medium build trousers waist 38" shirt size medium or Unwanted gift new still in box. you can also state collection details like, Item must be collected this weekend or Collection only in the evening between 7 and 10.

Q. What should I put for my location?

A. When posting an item, you are asked for your location. this is so people interested in your item know roughly where they will need to go to pick up the item. Be specific when adding your location, don't just put London. For London put your Town and the first part of your postcode i.e. Hayes, UB4. for other areas put your town and county i.e. Ashford, Kent. This will stop you receiving lots of emails from people who are just asking where you are.

Q. What kind of things can I post in the Recycling Bin?

A. You can post anything you no longer need, Furniture, Electrical goods things like Kitchen appliances or Audio Visual equipment, Toys as long as they are in reasonable condition, Hobby equipment you no longer use like Wine making equipment or Tools for DIY you no longer need. You can post almost anything even services like Cake making or Gardening, if you are good at making cakes and just do it for a hobby or you like gardening and want to help out people in your local area, then post your service. The only thing we do specify is you can't ask for a payment for your goods or services, all exchanges on the Recycling Bin are to be free.

Q. Can I use a contact method other than email?

A. By default when someone want to contact you about a posted item, they will be presented with a form which will email you with their request, (this will not disclose your email address). Once you receive the emails it is then up to you who you decide to give the item too. If you want to use a mobile number for contacting then add your contact details to the description of your item. Don't add addresses or any other details you don't want the world to know as this site is visible to everyone all over the world.

Top

Q. I have more than one Picture can I post them all?

A. The site will only upload one picture, so if you have more pictures you can email them to people who contact you about the item, you could add in your description that you have more pictures.

Top

Q. What do I do once I receive emails about my item?

A. When you have received enough emails from people wanting your item, then login and visit your item and change it's status to Pending. This will then show as Item Pending in the Recycling Bin and the contact link will no longer be available. Once the item has been collected log in again and change the status to Taken, the item will then show in the Recycling Bin for a few days to let people know the item has gone and then will disappear from the main page and will only be visible under the completed items page.

Top

Q. What if the item is not collected as agreed?

A. If the item is not collected as agreed you can contact someone else you received a request from or you can re-offer the item by logging in and change the status to Offer. The item will then be redisplayed as Re-Offered in the Recycling Bin. Once an item is marked as taken you can not change the status, you would have to repost the item.

Top

Q. I have not had a response from a user?

A. If you have responded to an item posted in the Recycling Bin, watch the item to see if it's status has changed to Pending or Taken. If the status is Pending then the user making the offer is waiting for someone to collect the item, if the item status is Taken then the item has already been collected. The user will not always respond to all requests for an item as they may receive hundreds of requests.

If you are offering an item and are trying to contact someone who has expressed an interest in the item, give them a reasonable amount of time to respond then either re-offer the item or contact someone else who has expressed an interest.

Top

Q. Are my details safe?

A. We do not disclose your details even your email address, when someone wants to contact you they do so through a form which dose not show your email address. Only the person/people you reply to via email will get your email address.

Obviously if you decide to add an email address or mobile phone number to the description of the item then all will see this.

If you are contacting a user showing an interest in their item then that user will get your email address in the message sent from the site, this enables them to contact you directly if you are to receive the item.
